Use examples to test a conjecture

Move from an observed pattern to a claim with conditions, then look for an example that tests its boundary.

Notice a pattern

Begin with a small, concrete case. Say what changes, what stays fixed and which quantity or relationship you are observing.

Name the condition

Turn the observation into a tentative claim, then ask which assumptions make it plausible. A claim without its conditions is often too broad to test well.

Seek the boundary

Change one relevant feature at a time. Use a counterexample to find where your statement needs a narrower condition or a different conclusion.

Keep conjecture and conclusion distinct

A promising conjecture is a starting point for explanation or proof. When you have learning access, use Discuss to explore it; read the send label before choosing to submit an answer for assessment.
